Dewatering study Sint-Truiden

Objectif: Dewatering of one underground level in the center of Sint-Truiden. Groundwater levels need to be lowered in the member of Lincent and the project site is situated in the alluvium of the Cicindria.

Methodology: Design of the dewatering and sensitivity study with a numerical groundwater model, execution of hydrogeological drillings.

Results: The member of Lincent is characterized by very high horizontal hydraulic conductivities and very low vertical conductivities due to broken and intact clay layers. Slurry walls are placed till the member of Lincent, deep enough to confine several intact clay layers to reduce the impact of the dewatering on the surroundings. Measurements of groundwater levels inside and outside the excavation show that the dewatering concept works.
