FRAC-IN: in-situ removal of contamination from less permeable soils

FRAC-IN is a three-year European “Eurostars” research project to work out a solution to remove contamination in-situ in less-permeable soils. It is the first time VLAIO (Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship) funds a project of a Flemish consortium of companies with a score of second on a total of 293 international, eligible candidates! Together with its Flemish partner ABO-Group and the Czeck partners DEKONTA and NANO IRON, a method is developed to inject innovative suspensions in the soil after making it more permeable under high pressure with Direct-Push drilling technology. AGT is responsible for fine-tuning the drilling technique and testing of the efficiency of the process by field measurements and numerical models. COMSOL is applied as a modelling tool to simulate various interacting physical processes at a detailed scale.
